The concert tour outlined below should provide musical gratification of the highest order. The schedule is based on visits to four important cultural centers in the heart of Central Europe in a region historically associated with the development of Western Music. Performances are planned in major Central European cultural centers including Vienna and Salzburg in Austria. In addition Brno and Prague in the Czech Republic will be visited. While the focus on music is paramount, there is ample time for sightseeing, educational and cultural enrichment.

 

Wednesday, March 07 HOUSTON to SALZBURG
4.15pm

The STEPHEN F. AUSTIN HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA AND FRIENDS FROM WILLIAM B. TRAVIS HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA depart from Houston (IAH) per Lufthansa flight LH 441 arriving Frankfurt the next morning, March 08, 2007 at 9.10AM
Dinner and breakfast will be served on board.

Thursday, March 08 SALZBURG
09.10am Arrive at Frankfurt airport
11.10am 58 passengers continue to Vienna, Austria per Austrian Airlines flight OS 122 arriving Vienna at 12.40PM
12.00pm Second contingent will continue to Vienna, Austria per Lufthansa Flight LH3534 arriving in Vienna at 2 PM.
The entire group will be met by Concerts Austria staff, your guides
Mr.Ondrej Strejcek and Ms.Zuzana Milková. ( more information about your guides)
Load the instrument truck
Board the buses and continue for a final ride through the lovely Austrian countryside to Salzburg!
Arrive in Salzburg in the afternoon
Lunch on your own en route (This is the perfect time to exchange money)
Check-into hotel; time to rest (recommended time: no longer than 2 hours, this will ensure that participants will adjust to Western European time and overcome their jet lag quickly.)
7.00 pm Welcome dinner at your hotel and briefing with your guides
8.30 pm Start rehearsal at hotel

Friday, March 09 SALZBURG
8.00 am Buffet breakfast at the hotel
9.00 am Board the busses and start a morning guided city tour of Salzburg including a visit to Mozart's birthplace. (Entrance fee included)
12.00 pm End of city tour
Lunch on own arrangements
Board bus and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Salzkammergut Lake district and enjoy the landmarks of the famous film 'Sound of Music'
Return to Salzburg and prepare for concert

Saturday, March 10 SALZBURG to PRAGUE

Lunch on your own en route.
Arrive in Prague in the afternoon, check into your hotel
4.30 pm

Depart the hotel with your local guide and start a city tour including the Prague Castle, walking tour of the old town, St. Vitus Cathedral, and the Charles Bridge.
Board cruise boat

7.30 pm Dinner cruise on the Vlatava River (7.00 boarding boat)
9.30 pm End of cruise and return to hotel

Sunday, March 11 PRAGUE
9.00 am Buffet breakfast at hotel
10.00 am Depart from Hotel
11.00 am Visit the famous Villa Bertramka, with the Museum of Mozart (entrance included)
12.30 pm

Lunch on your own.
In the afternoon enjoy more sightseeing and some time at leisure in the centre of Prague, return to your hotel

Monday, March 12 PRAGUE to BRNO
7.00 am Breakfast at hotel
8.00 am Depart Prague, travel through the rolling Bohemian and Moravian countryside to Brno, the Moravian Capital, at one-time headquarters of Napoleon (Battle of Austerlitz in 1805)
12.00 pm

Lunch on own arrangements in the city-centre.

1.00 pm Start lecture with a member of Brno's Janacek Conservatory
Visit of Janacek Museum (two groups)
3.00 pm end of lecture and visit
3.30 pm Check into your Hotel

Tuesday, March 13 BRNO to VIENNA
7.00 am Buffet breakfast at hotel
8.00 am Depart for Vienna (have passports ready)
Arrive in Vienna before lunch time

Check into your hotel
Start your guided city tour of Vienna including a visit of
Schoenbrunn Palace. (Entrance fee included)
See the Ring Avenue, the Hofburg Palace, the Opera House, St. Stephen's Cathedral, Mozart's "Figaro House", City Hall and visit the Central Cemetery (honorary tombs of famous composers like Beethoven, Gluck, Schubert, Johann Strauss Father and Son, Lanner and Brahms).
7.00 pm Dinner at local restaurant Wieselburger at the Prater, the oldest amusement park in the world with its famous ferris wheel and plenty of other attractions.

Wednesday, March 14 VIENNA
8.00 am Buffet breakfast at the hotel
9.00 am Transfer to the city center (bring concert attire and music)
and the "Spanish Riding School" to visit the traditional morning training of this famous institution, the only one in the world that has practiced for over 430 years and continues to cultivate classical equestrianism in the Renaissance tradition of the "haute école".
10.00 am Start of the morning exercises performed to music!
12.00 pm End of the visit

Board the buses
Depart for the province Burgenland and the evening concert in Bad Tatzmannsdorf

  Arrive in Eisenstadt - where Joseph Haydn lived for 30 years. Eisenstadt is the capital as well as the cultural and educational center of the province of Burgenland. This charming Baroque town - its buildings influenced by the Prince Esterhazy dynasty - is Austria's smallest and youngest provincial capital. Eisenstadt had its heyday in the 18th century when it was ruled by Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy.
See the Esterhazy Palace where Haydn conducted the court orchestra almost every evening.
Continue to Oberschützen and meet with your hosts -
the Oberschützen Institute orchestra, a branch of the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz which is the second largest town in Austria and an important center for science and cultural activities.

5.45 pm Depart for Bad Tatzmannsdorf (5 minutes drive)
6.00 pm The orchestra will be officially welcomed by a city representative.

Thursday, March 15 VIENNA
8.00 am Buffet breakfast at hotel

Transfer to the city center and time for more sightseeing and exploration.
Lunch on your own. Time for shopping.
In the afternoon visit the outstanding "House of Music" to experience the following attractions:
*The Great Masters of Viennese music tradition: Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Strauss.
*The Virtual Conductor *The Waltz Dice Game *The Vienna Philharmonic Museum
*New Year´s Concert Experience (35 min.)
* The Sonosphere
* The Brain Opera

2.30 pm Lecture by Prof. Roland Horvath, Member of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra
Topics include: "Vienna a Center of Music in the World", "Music History in Vienna" and "Perspectives of a Professinal Musician".
5.00 pm Return to the hotel
7.00 pm

Farewell dinner provided at the hotel followed by a Waltz-performance. Afterwards you can also try the waltz. Professional dancing teachers from Vienna will assist.

Friday, March 16 VIENNA to HOUSTON
4.45 am Early breakfast and check out of the hotel
5.15 am

Depart the hotel and transfer to the Vienna International Airport

5.40 am Arrive at the airport and check-in for your return flight back to the USA
7.40am The entire group will depart Vienna, Austria per Lufthansa flight LH3543 and arrive in Frankfurt, Germany at 9.15AM.
The group will change planes in Frankfurt and continue from Frankfurt, Germany to Houston, USA per Lufthansa Flight LH440 departing Frankfurt at 10.15 AM arriving Houston (IAH) at 3.30PM the same day.
