TGY Choir


TGY Chorus

Established in Tokyo in 2008.
Gijin Yamamoto is the president, conductor and the founder of the choir. TGY Chorus was organized to present concerts mainly with classical and baroque era programs.
With its quite short history, TGY already presented many stages including Krönungsmesse (W.A. Mozart), Nänie (J. Brahms), Mahler ‘s Symphony Nr.2, a capella pieces of Tohru Takemitsu, programs from John Rutter and Bob Chilcot, Spanish folklore and many more.
The Mozart and Haydn program are to be performed in Tokyo Sumida Triphony Hall in October with Ensemble gymnica.
It is already announced they will present a concert with “Lobgesang” – Mendelssohn’s Symphony Nr.2 next August, again in Sumida Triphony Hall, with Kammerphilhamonie Tokio.

Mr. Gijin YAMAMOTO
Conductor

Graduated from Nihon University, Study of Music in the College of Art.
Made his debut in “Lucia” during his years in college, followed by appearances in “La Traviata”, “Die Zauberflföte” etc.
Appeared as a Tenor soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Mozart Requiem, Krönungs Messe, Schubert’s Mass, Johannes Passion and many more.
In "Bernstein Mass" (Directed by Michiyoshi Inoue) in 1994, he received reputations by accomplishing the hard task of singing the tenor solo.
Started his career as a conductor in 1988.
Started to teach at the renowned Tokyo College of Music from 1999, when he took part as the chorus master in their concert of “Carmina Burana” with Nederland Philharmonic Orchestra in Holland.
The chorus quality in the Verdi Requiem concert in Vienna (2005) called him back to Vienna to conduct his TFF Choir in “The World Choral Festival” in 2007, at which they received standing ovation. The Artistic Director of the festival, M. Schebesta praised his conduct and already invited him back to Vienna.
The concert of “Mozart Requiem” held at the Smetana hall in Prague in 2008, in which he took part as the chorus master also received reputation.
The concerts with TGY Chorus were all success, including the stage with works of Tohru Takemitsu where he received everlasting applause.
Constantly works with Vladimir Ashkenazy, Junichi Hirokami, Myung-Whun Chung etc. to contribute to the success of all the concerts.

President of Saitama Opera Association.
Assistant instructor at Tokyo College of Music.
